PART 2
PALCOYO RAINBOW MOUNTAINS RANGE

On your path, you will come across a lot of flora as well as fauna, and many llamas and alpacas, which we advise to not approach too closely. You will also come across a stunning spectacle of rocks, known as the “Forest of Stones”. Peaks of rock, the same height as trees have grown upright from the ground, and they possess a mystical feel. You can take an alternative route, if you have time, and view them from up close. Due to the hike being less strenuous than Vinicunca, and the shortness of the trek, no horses are available for rent at this location.

After a short hike, you will arrive at the final main viewpoint of Palccoyo (4900 mts/16076.1 ft) where you will have the chance to relax and take in the sights of the incredible 3 colorful rainbow mountains as well as the red valley. This intense colors have been provided by minerals for instance: the red clay, sandstone or copper oxide found in the area. You will also be able to spot the majestic Ausangate Mountain which is the fifth highest in the entirety of Peru, measuring 6385 mts/20948.2 ft). If you would like a standard pair of walking sticks to support you during the trek, then we can provide them to you if you ask in advance. You will be given the required time to take as many photos as you wish so that you will never forget about your time at Palccoyo.
Prior to commencing your hike, you will hear your expert guide’s explanation and then be given approximately 1.5 hours to wander around the premises. Your guide will allocate a meeting point, where we will come together in order to embark the vehicle and be taken to our picnic spot. The drive will take roughly 20 minutes. Once we have reached our lunch place, you will be served mouthwatering gourmet meals as well as some hot coca tea in order to combat altitude sickness. The final lap of the day includes transportation back to the city of Cusco in private transportation. Schedule arrival time is 18:00pm and the rest of the evening is for you to enjoy at your leisure.
