Day 5CUSCO – KM 82 – WAYLLABAMBA - Commencing the Inca Trail

  • Pick up time: 07:00 am

  • Arrival to Cusco: 21:56 pm
  • Minimum altitude: Aguas Calientes Town – 2070 masl/6791.3 ft.
  • Maximum altitude: Machu Picchu citadel – 2430 masl/ 7972.4 ft.

Today very early in the morning, your expert guide will pick you up from your after you have finished breakfast in order to take a 30 min bus ride that will take you to the citadel entrance. During high season the queues are longer than expected but please know that the wait is worth it!

On our visit today you will complement what you already learn the day before and also receive new information provided by your knowledgeable guide, you may want to clear up any doubt or questions that may be lingering and then be completely absorbed by this impressive place. Afterward, you will be free to enjoy the citadel at your leisure, perhaps you decide to take a short hike such as Huayna Picchu to access more panoramic views of Machu Picchu mountain in case you wish to have a more tranquil walk. Please note that these hikes are unguided, have an additional cost, and must be booked far in advance, in case this catches your interest check the availability with your travel specialist.

By the afternoon, you may want to take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, it will be 30 roughly minutes. Feel amazing as you board the train to Cuasco, which will take you back to Poroy train station. Once you arrive at Poroy train station, a representative will be present to make sure that you board your private transportation and promptly arrive back at your hotel in Cusco. The journey will take about 40 minutes of the road.

If you would like to climb to Huayna Picchu Mountain, please take in mind that is an unguided hike and require and additional cost. If you are interested, please consult with your travel specialist as we need to check availability far in advance.

Restrictions

Train stations and train schedules are subject to availability, also due to rainy season Poroy train station is closed from January to April of each year.

The train to Puno only runs Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday – if your itinerary that’s not match these days then you must have to take a private transportation or fly, please consult the options with your travel specialist.
